About the St Kilda Archive<\/h3>\n\n

We are pleased to present a dedicated St Kilda section that offers a comprehensive collection of information about the history of St Kilda, brought to you thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery. The only dual UNESCO World Heritage site in the UK, and one of only 39 in the world. <\/p>\n\n

St Kilda is an archipelago located 50 miles west of mainland Harris. The island was continuously inhabited for at least 2,000 years, until the last 36 islanders were evacuated in 1930.<\/p>\n\n

Thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery, we are able to present handwritten family tree sheets for every St Kilda family on record, based on years of research by Bill Lawson, available free, open source and fully accessible through our online database under a Creative Commons licence.<\/p>\n\n

In addition to these invaluable family tree sheets, our online St Kilda archive provides a wealth of resources enabling you to deepen your understanding of the island\u2019s past.<\/p>\n\n

Our photo gallery showcases a collection of digitised slide photographs taken by Bill Lawson, allowing you to witness the beauty of this awe-inspiring location.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>
