Mary Ann Morrison was born in Cnoc Esgan in Cuidinish, Isle of Harris. She set off for Quebec in 1887 with her family to join her uncle Roderick who had already settled in Quebec.
They settled on land between Marsboro and Lac MacKenzie, they called it “Craobhag”. Although it wasn’t the best of land and was rather high and exposed – it was much better than what they had been used to in Harris – and there was plenty of timber to sell and use for buildings. Mary Ann and her sister Mary had plenty to do looking after the cattle, while her Uncle Ewen had five boys to work on the farm – and out of season, they would go across to the States to work in the granite quarries around Graniteville in Vermont.
Mary Ann brought up a family of thirteen on the farm with her husband Ruairidh. As she got older, she moved to live with her daughter in Montreal.
Mary Ann died in 1983 at the age of 105.
