Scottish Land Fund Success!

We are delighted to say that Northton Heritage Trust has received £239,000 from the Scottish Land Fund to purchase The Old School House and three areas of land in Northton in the Isle of Harris, allowing the group to extend the Seallam! Visitor Centre and car park and develop an educational centre with accommodation for researchers studying the genealogical records that are held at the site.

Rebecca Hutton, Chair, Northton Heritage Trust said: “The Board are absolutely delighted to be receiving this funding which we feel is a real turning point in the future of this project. Whilst Seallam! is already a world class visitor centre, it is vitally important that we consolidate, expand and improve on what we have to offer and part of that is protecting and promoting the Lawson legacy which this will enable us to do. We are extremely grateful for the support from the Scottish Land Fund, HIE and our advisors and this brings us considerably closer to achieving our goals.”
